บิดาแห่งรูปทรงที่เป็นไปไม่ได้

ออสการ์เป็นศิลปินกราฟิคชาวสวีเดน ซึ่งในปี 1934 ได้ถือว่าเป็นผู้บุกเบิกศิลปะการวาดภาพสามมิติที่ดูเหมือนว่าจะเป็นไปได้ แต่ไม่สามารถนำมาสร้างเป็นวัตถุสามมิติให้เป็นจริงได้

ออสการ์วาดผลงานทุกชิ้นของเขาด้วยมือเปล่าใช้หมึกอินเดียบนกระดาษสาญี่ปุ่น โดยไม่มีการใช้ไม่บรรทัด ผลงานที่มีเส้นที่ไม่ตรงนั่นเกิดจากการที่ออสการ์วาดบางรูปบนรถไฟ

ปลายทศวรรษ 1960 ภาพวาดของออสการ์ได้รับการตีพิมพ์ในหนังสือหลายเล่ม รวมถึงได้จัดแสดงในงานนิทัศการที่พิพิธภันศิลปะในหลายประเทศ ช่วงกลางทศวรรษ 1990 ออสการ์ได้รับมอบหมายให้ออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมสาธารณะหลายแห่งในสวีเดนรวมถึงพิพิธภัณฑ์สถานแห่งชาติสวีเดนและพิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะสมัยใหม่แห่งกรุงสตอกโฮล์ม

ในปี 1982 รัฐบาลสวีเดนได้เฉลิมฉลองความสำเร็จของออสการ์โดยการนำผลงานของเขา 3 ชิ้นมาขึ้นอยู่บนแสตมป์สวีเดน และต่อมาเมื่ออัตราค่าไปรษณีย์เพิ่มขึ้น รัฐบาลได้ทำลายสแตมป์ทั้งหมดที่ยังไม่ได้ใช้ ทำให้แสตมป์ของออสการ์กลายเป็นของสะสมที่หายากและราคาสูง

ในปจุบันผลงานบางชิ้นของออสการ์ได้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการแสดงศิลปะแบบถาวรอยู่ที่ Center Pompidou ในกรุงปารีส, Musée des beaux-arts ในเมืองรูอ็อง, พิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะแห่งเมืองออสโล และอีกหลายที่ในทวีปยุโรป

The father of the impossible figure

Oscar Reutersvärd was a Swedish graphic artist, who in 1934 pioneered the art of 3D drawings that may initially appear feasible, yet cannot be physically constructed.

Freehand drawings with India ink on Japanese rice paper without a ruler or any mechanical device. The shaky lines, often exacerbated by working on the train ride.

In the late 1960s, several books were published featuring his work with many international gallery exhibitions. In the mid 1990s, his work was prominently commissioned for several public buildings in Sweden, the National Museum of Sweden and Museum of Modern Art of Stockholm.

Reutersvärd's achievements were honoured by the Swedish government in 1982, by a series of Swedish postage stamps. These scarce items are now eagerly sought collectibles.

Today his work are a part of permanent collections at many art galleries including Center Pompidou in Paris, the Musée des beaux-arts in Rouen, the National Gallery in Oslo etc.
